Ask & Answered

Elderly man prayingI have prayed fervently and desperately for the Lord to intervene on my behalf of my family or loved one. I believe that the Lord hears my prayers. I also believe He answers my prayers according to His Will and His Way. I know what I want when I pray, but I’ve grown in my faith to the point that I want but I want, but I will surrender to what the Lord wants. The Lord just knows things that I don’t know. He sees things that I can’t possibly see.

I do believe that I can ask the Lord anything. I believe that the Lord has honored some of my desperate prayers as well as some prayers that later seem trivial. I don’t always understand His answer but I trust His heart. The story of Hezekiah reveals a desperate prayer that was asked and answered. Check this out…

1 In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”

2 Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, 3 “Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

4 Before Isaiah had left the middle court, the word of the Lord came to him: 5 “Go back and tell Hezekiah, the ruler of my people, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the temple of the Lord. 6 I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for my sake and for the sake of my servant David.’” (2 Kings 20:1-6 NIV)

I want to walk with the Lord like Hezekiah. I want to be bold in my prayers. I want the Lord to direct my path and pour wisdom into me. I am still learning and trying to understand deeply the heart of God. I want to trust that His timing is perfect. His will is perfect. He provides for my family and me. He gives me wisdom beyond explanation. I want to walk faithfully before the Lord just to know Him more, NOT to bargain with Him. As I get to know the Lord more, I can trust Him more fully.

I will continue to pray desperate prayers because the Lord knows when my heart is hurt and desperate anyway. I want to keep growing in my understanding of God’s heart.

Pressing On!
