A Trusted Friend

Over the years I’ve been blessed with lots of friendships. There have also been times when I’ve been wounded deeply by people I thought were my friends. Rich friendships are not as plentiful as maybe they should be. I can be acquaintance to many, but a friend to a few. I have a group of friends that I went to college with and we get together and hang out, play golf and visit once a year. Our friendships always pick up where we left off.  Life-long friendships are extremely valuable in so many ways.  I some of the words of King Solomon regarding friendship as it speaks to character. Check this out…

17 As iron sharpens iron,
so people can improve each other.
19 As water reflects your face,
so your mind shows what kind of person you are.
21 A hot furnace tests silver and gold,
and people are tested by the praise they receive. (Proverbs 27:17,19,21 NCV)

Trusted friends speak to my character. They can “bust my chops” when it’s needed. They can “call me out” when I’ve done something wrong. They can comfort me when I’m hurting.

Iron Sharpens Iron

.  Trusted friends know me deeply and they know if I am who I say I am. Trusted friends can help keep me grounded.

I’m so thankful for deep, long lasting, life building friendships. My wife is my best friend and I’m grateful to share life with her. I’m thankful for my college buddies that have spoken into my life and invested in me over the years. I’m grateful for friends who have loved me through some difficult times of life. I hope I can be a treasured friend to my friends.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
