Remember Yesterday

Memo with Paper Clip - rememberSometimes I have a “senior moment” and my memory “slips a gear”! I can’t remember what I had for lunch yesterday or everything I was able to do. Today is a bit different and yesterday was a big day. Yesterday was Resurrection Sunday or Easter, as we often refer to it. Yesterday was the day we celebrate that Jesus rose from the dead. It’s a big day. If Jesus didn’t rise from the dead, then He was like any other person claiming to be the Son of God. If Jesus didn’t rise from the dead, my faith is empty and useless. But, Jesus DID rise from the dead and completed just what He came here to do. He made a way to God that had not been there before. He gave us access to Creator God because of His willingness to come to earth. He lived a life that I couldn’t live. He died a death that I deserved. He conquered death so that I don’t have to fear. He gives me life here and now and He promises an eternal life when this life ends.

Paul instructs his young protégé, Timothy to remember why He’s called to serve. The Good News or the Gospel packs a lot of POWER inside its message of hope and salvation. Check this out….

Always remember that Jesus Christ, a descendant of King David, was raised from the dead. This is the Good News I preach. And because I preach this Good News, I am suffering and have been chained like a criminal. But the word of God cannot be chained. 10 So I am willing to endure anything if it will bring salvation and eternal glory in Christ Jesus to those God has chosen. (2 Timothy 2:8-10 NLT)

Paul suffered because of His faith, but he didn’t give up.

Paul felt called to share the Good News to everyone who would listen. His memory of meeting Jesus on the road to Damascus was keen. He never forgot what it was like to be lost. He never forgot meeting the Lord.

It helps me to draw upon my memory of when I first met the Lord. I often remember when I first accepted the Lord. I remember parts of my journey that are now many years in my past. I remember days like yesterday. The Lord not only came for everyone, He came for me. His love is reckless. His love is powerful. His love is relentless. His love is overwhelming. This song from yesterday still moves my heart profoundly this morning.

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights ’til I’m found, leaves the ninety-nine
And I couldn’t earn it, and I don’t deserve it, still, You give Yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

There’s no shadow You won’t light up
Mountain You won’t climb up
Coming after me
There’s no wall You won’t kick down
Lie You won’t tear down
Coming after me (Reckless Love by Bethel -written by Caleb Culver / Cory Asbury / Ran Jackson)

I remember yesterday and my inspiration and my hope continues today.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
