Land Boundaries
I enjoy looking at land with a customer or client. It’s way different than showing a house. I am looking for the corner pins as well as line markers. I’ve had the privilege lately of listing and selling some nice tracts of land. One of the tracks of the land is not marked very well and it’s easy to accidentally get on the neighbor’s property. It’s such a large track that it will probably not be surveyed until it goes under contract. The boundaries are fairly easy to the people who own the land, because they know their land boundaries.
I usually remind people that the Lord isn’t making more land. As the American economy rebounded from the “Great Recession”, land prices have recovered very well. I recently had a case where there was unknown encroachment by the previous owner upon the neighboring lot. It was uncomfortable to walk through, but we have a resolution.
Moses was given instructions from the Lord regarding the boundaries of the land He was promising to them. Check this out….
13 Then Moses told the Israelites, “This territory is the homeland you are to divide among yourselves by sacred lot. The Lord has commanded that the land be divided among the nine and a half remaining tribes. 14 The families of the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh have already received their grants of land 15 on the east side of the Jordan River, across from Jericho toward the sunrise.” (Numbers 34:13-15 NLT)
Boundaries are important in land, but also in life. Boundaries sometimes feel restrictive, but I can also find freedom in boundaries. I think boundaries can provide clarity. Boundaries can help orchestrate peace. There are boundaries in relationships. I think boundaries provide a sense of safety as well.
The Lord has always given boundaries to His kids. He knows that when I step outside the boundaries of behavior that He promotes, that great harm can come. His Word explains the boundaries of behavior and relationships. They are not suggestions to the Christ follower. I can’t speak for everyone else, but I’ve tried living outside the boundaries the Lord has set for me and it’s not as fun and fulfilling as seen on tv.
Boundaries were created out of love and care. I believe the Lord’s boundaries scream out His love for me. He helps me grow in my trust of Him when I stay within the boundaries that He has for me. The boundaries I operate within may be a little different than someone else’s, but He will lead me according to His Word and His deep love for me.
Pressing On!
