Ears & Eyes
This could be subtitled “hearing and seeing”. These are two really keen senses that help me discern most any situation when I walk up. My ears are listening devices, but so are my eyes. I can assess quickly using both these senses. As I was reading this passage this morning, the eyes I was thinking of was the eyes of the Lord. He not only hears me – He sees me. Check this out…
1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. 2 The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly. 3 The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good. 4 The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit. (Proverbs 15:1-4 NIV)
What I do speaks so loudly that you can’t hear what I’m saying. I can use my words to calm a situation or pour gasoline on it and watch it explode. The Lord gave me wisdom to weigh my words carefully and use them appropriately. I shouldn’t talk too much, because I will be held accountable for my words as they reflect my heart.
Not only does the Lord hear everything – He sees everything. The proverb write offers encouragement to watch my words as the Lord watches over me.
