Purpose
Most of the things I do have a purpose behind them – or at least they used too. I do some things without even thinking about them or the purpose behind them. For example, I drink a full glass of water first thing in the morning when I get up and start moving. I remember the purpose behind it is to refresh my body after going several hours without liquid. Now, I just drink the water without giving it much thought. I have some not so good habits that I won’t mention here that are still on purpose. Obviously, there is no one threatening my life it I don’t eat that unhealthy food. I don’t “accidentally” do dumb things – I do dumb things on purpose.
In the book of Romans, Paul is really pushing on the believers to understand how they are different now that they have believed in Jesus. This was a radical shift in their thinking because the Law directed their lives until Jesus – when God’s Spirit did the directing. One of my favorite passages in all of scripture was in my reading schedule for this morning and the word purpose jumped out at me. Check this out….
26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. 28 And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. (Romans 8:26-28 NLT)
The “purpose” here is His Purpose not my purpose. I believe that God’s Spirit prompts me to be on purpose and bring honor to Him with my choices. I need to keep that word at the forefront of my mind today. I want to do each activity that I’m part of with purpose – His purpose.
I love that the very Spirit of God helps me with His purpose. He prompts my heart. He directs my path. He calms my chaos. His purpose for me is very intentional. His purpose for me is specific. His purpose for me is not secret – it is public knowledge. His purpose for me is the same as all humanity – to glorify God with my life.
Pressing On!
