Strong Remembrance
I wear a ring on the third finger of my left hand to remind me of my wedding vows. I can still remember that day over 27 years ago when I said, “I Do” and she did too! The day was very special and memorable. We both exchanged rings to remind us of that big day.
There are big days in my journey with the Lord. This week is the celebration of Jesus’ last week walking the earth. It was ugly but beautiful. The events of this week many years ago became the pivot point on which all of Christianity rests. He willingly gave His life as a sacrifice for sin, but then He put death in its place and rose from the dead. I should probably tattoo that on my heart!
Moses is leading the Israelites from Egypt after the final and devastating plague of the death of the first born of Egypt. The Lord is reminding them of all He’s done. He gave them a special feast to remember this one event. He encouraged them to use this feast to teach future generations about what happened here. Check this out…..
8 “On the seventh day you must explain to your children, ‘I am celebrating what the Lord did for me when I left Egypt.’ 9 This annual festival will be a visible sign to you, like a mark branded on your hand or your forehead. Let it remind you always to recite this teaching of the Lord: ‘With a strong hand, the Lord rescued you from Egypt.’ 10 So observe the decree of this festival at the appointed time each year. (Exodus 13:8-10 NLT)
Our church gathers weekly for worship and part of our gathering includes a reminder of Jesus death. He gathered His disciples together the night He was betrayed and instituted a meal of remembrance that we now call The Lord’s Supper. We need to teach future generations about what went down on the Friday that Jesus died.
When I pause to remember significant events in my life’s journey, I am more prepared for today. Deep remembrance fills my heart with gratitude. Deep remembrance helps shape the posture of my heart.
Pressing On!
