Heaven Song

Sunset worshipThe imagery of Revelation is somewhat wild and hard to take in. The scene is something beyond my imagination and often it seems it’s beyond John’s imagination.  I’m not sure what I expect when I get to heaven, but there are times when I’m reading Revelation that I’m pretty sure that is not what I was expecting.

He tells about some of the “woes” that are coming and I think the intent of these “woes” are to give the people on earth another chance to turn to God. This one I came across today was about another scene in heaven that looked like it might be a bit more familiar. Check this out…

15 The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said:
“The kingdom of the world has become

the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah,

and he will reign for ever and ever.”
16 And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying:
“We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty,

the One who is and who was,

because you have taken your great power

and have begun to reign. (Revelation 11:15-17 NIV)

The song being sung was worship to the King of Kings. He is present and the scene here in heaven looks a bit like a worship service. I need to bow down and worship Him. I need to be aware of my posture in His Presence. I need to humble myself before Him. The words of the songs are not nearly as important as the posture of my heart. I want to surrender my heart to Him today and every day here on earth and then for eternity in heaven. It’s going to be amazing there!

Worthy Of My Praise

Jesus man of joyWhen someone does something good that blesses me, I really try to tell him or her. I want them to know what a blessing they were to me. If they deserve honor, I want to give them honor. It also is a good feeling to have been a blessing to someone else. My journey in Revelation took me to another scene in heaven where worship was taking place. This was a worship of thanksgiving to God. Check this out….

After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice:
“Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb.”
11 All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying:
“Amen!
Praise and glory
and wisdom and thanks and honor
and power and strength
be to our God for ever and ever.
Amen!” (Revelation 7:9-12 NIV)

These people were worshipping out of deep gratitude for Who God is and what He had done in their life.  There’s not a better thing to do than to give Him honor and praise for Who He is and all that He’s doing in my life and my world.

He is The Source of Salvation.

He is The Source of Grace.

He is The Source of Mercy.

He is The Source of Life.

Everything thing and everyone can trace their heritage back to Him. He alone is worthy of my praise this morning and every morning.

You Alone are Father.

You Alone are Good.

You Alone are Savior.

You Alone are God!

Heavenly Worship

Sunset worshipI love to worship God. I believe God loves it when I worship Him. I try to describe His Goodness, His Holiness, His Mercy, His Heart – I could go on and on. When I worship God, I realize how small I am. I realize how unholy I am, because He is Holy. I believe everyone worships – just not the right person. I’ve been guilty of worshipping myself – my wants and wishes. I’ve been guilty of worshipping my work, my stuff, my money – I could go on and on.

In reading in Revelation, I love the imagery that seems to throw people into a new stratosphere of thought. John was trying hard to use his words to describe something impossible to describe. I believe he understood what they were saying, but I’m not so sure he understood all the imagery and symbolism, but he sure did capture a lot.  The scene that blessed me this morning was when the Lamb of God – Jesus was opening the scroll and worship started in heaven – a pretty cool scene I’ll bet. Check this out…..

11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a loud voice they were saying:
Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,

to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength

and honor and glory and praise!”
13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:
“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb

be praise and honor and glory and power,

for ever and ever! (Revelation 5:11-13 NIV)

Worship began in heaven and is completed when it reaches into my heart. I worship Him because He saved me. I worship Him because He loves me. I worship Him because He is worthy of my praise. I worship Him simply loving Him and living for Him. My hearts affection and my minds attention are focused on Him. In worship, I direct my attention to Him and He directs my thoughts and actions so that I worship Him with all of who I am.

Jesus -Son of God

Christmas NativityI love this day – it’s the day we celebrate Jesus’ birth! He came to earth as a vulnerable little baby. God was wearing diapers! He was dependent on His young earthly Mom to take care of Him. He came to earth on a mission. I love the gift of Grace and Mercy that He brought to me. I could never measure up to the law of the Old Testament of the law of churches in this country. The Lord knew that I could never measure up – no one can except Jesus. He became the perfect sacrifice for sin. Paul was explaining to the church at Colossi just how important the supremacy of Jesus is. Check this out…

15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. (Colossians 1:15-20 NIV)

I’m a receiver of a gift that I could never match up and I certainly don’t deserve a gift like that. I could never repay the giver EXCEPT through worship. He gave me life and I give Him my heart in worship and obedience. I’m so glad He came. I’m so thankful for His LOVE and His GRACE!
