Trust Him To Build My Life

Trust with blue markerI want to be trusted. In fact, the subtitle of my REALTOR title is to be a “trusted advisor”. I must maintain integrity, honesty and honor to be trusted. Included in this description is competency. I must know what I’m doing. I must do what I say I’ll do and be who I say I am. I am continually building my business and it’s all based on these deep values. I take keeping other’s trust very seriously.

Jesus takes trust very seriously as well. He compels me to trust Him. I came across a small passage of scripture that I’m not sure I’ve ever noticed before involving trust. Check this out…

23 Because of the miraculous signs Jesus did in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration, many began to trust in him. 24 But Jesus didn’t trust them, because he knew all about people. 25 No one needed to tell him about human nature, for he knew what was in each person’s heart. (John 2:23-24 NLT)

I read this and I began to wonder if the Lord trusts me. I do trust Him. I do try to order my life around His call upon my heart. I don’t think I’ve ever wondered if the Lord trusts me. I been overly concerned about my trusting Him. I want to be one of His trusted friends. I am Dad to five amazing kids. It is interesting to watch them grow and try things. It’s comical to think of the things that they tried that were wrong, but they tried to “get away with it”. It is a huge blessing to be able to put my trust in them. They are go where they say they are going. They give me reason to trust them. Yes, I’ve had trust with them broken.

Building trust is a delegate work in progress. It can take years to build and a millisecond to destroy. I want to keep building my life on the foundation of trust in the Lord. I love this song recorded at Passion 2017. It was written by Pat Barrett, Karl Martin, Matt Redman, Brett Younker.

Build My Life

Worthy of every song we could ever sing

Worthy of all the praise we could ever bring

Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe

We live for You

Jesus, the name above every other name

Jesus, the only one who could ever save

Worthy of every breath we could ever breathe

We live for You

Holy, there is no one like You

There is none beside You

Open up my eyes in wonder

Show me who You are

And fill me with Your heart

And lead me in Your love to those around me

I will build my life upon Your love

It is a firm foundation

I will put my trust in You alone

And I will not be shaken

Pressing On!

relaxSometimes it is easier to talk about relaxing than doing it. I am still learning to lean upon the Lord for help on this one. When bad things happen, it’s hard to relax a bit and take a step back to “take in” what happened. It seems easier to jump in with options and start “swinging away” trying to fix everything. There are some things that are way beyond my control to fix or repair. I do have to accept the things I can’t change and look closer at the things that I may be able to change. For example, the weather is expected to get dicey here in Georgia later today and overnight into tomorrow from Hurricane Irma who will probably be Tropical Storm Irma or Tropical Depression Irma by the time it hits our area. I can do some storm preparations and “hunker down” or evacuate to another location, but I can’t change the fact that there is bad weather coming. I can’t always change my circumstances, but I can check my attitude toward my circumstances.

Peter gives some great instructions regarding suffering and struggle with things that I can do very little about. Check this out…

13 Who then will harm you if you are devoted to what is good? 14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear or be intimidated, 15 but in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, ready at any time to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you. 16 Yet do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that when you are accused, those who disparage your good conduct in Christ will be put to shame. (1 Peter 3:13-16 CSB)

I don’t always know what to say, but I can be quiet and trust in the Lord with the outcome. I don’t think the Lord expects me to defy danger and get in its path and then expect a miracle. I do believe that the Lord is with me wherever I go and wherever I am. He doesn’t leave me to face struggle and suffering alone. He doesn’t leave me when I’m celebrating victory either. (That’s when I usually forget about Him.) I want to live every day of my life with Him at the center of my heart. I want Him to be noticed in my life and in my decisions. I want Him to be noticed in my relaxation. I trust the Lord wholeheartedly. I can’t control what is about to happen, but with His help, I can control my response to it.

I view the Lord as holy. I have surrendered my heart to Him – it is a daily exercise. I want to keep in mind, if I’m successful, He’s responsible. If I fail or make a mistake, He won’t leave me stranded and alone. He is my hope and He is the reason I can relax and trust. He is in charge of this world and He is with me no matter what life throws at me.

Total Trust

Trust with blue markerI will often trust people until they do something to me that breaches that trust. I believe people trust me until I do something they don’t understand. If a friend judges my actions from a distance, I may have broken that trust. If my friend asked for an explanation then maybe trust can be maintained. I think trust is a powerful part of all my relationships. Broken trust in relationship can cause deep, deep pain. I know that I’ve broken trust with the Lord. The thing is, He’s NEVER broken trust with me. Check this out….

14 But I trust in you, Lord;

    I say, ‘You are my God.’
15 My times are in your hands;

    deliver me from the hands of my enemies,

    from those who pursue me.
16 Let your face shine on your servant;

    save me in your unfailing love.
17 Let me not be put to shame, Lord,

    for I have cried out to you;

but let the wicked be put to shame

    and be silent in the realm of the dead.
18 Let their lying lips be silenced,

    for with pride and contempt

    they speak arrogantly against the righteous. (Psalm 31:14-18 NIV)

He is faithful when I’m not.

He is consistent in His Character.

His Love NEVER fails.

He created all I see and know.

He holds my life in His hands.

He is so worthy of my total trust.
