Insight Light Bulb ConceptI’ve had experiences that are hard to describe and explain to others. The fact that I can’t explain or describe doesn’t diminish the impact that these experiences had on me. I’ve had personal experiences with the Lord that are still making an impact upon me today. I’ve prayed some bold prayers and watched Him work. I’ve seen Him change lives that were at the brink of ending. I’ve seen Him heal people.

As I journey through Revelation, I’m struck by so much symbolism. I can sometimes feel the struggle of John to properly describe what he is seeing. His descriptions of the creatures, angels and even the Son of God are captivating and hard to take in.

This morning I read a passage about a worship scene that was happening and John’s description of this event gave me a bit of insight as to what heaven could be like. Check this out…

After this I looked, and there was a vast multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language, which no one could number, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes with palm branches in their hands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice:

Salvation belongs to our God,
who is seated on the throne,
and to the Lamb!

11 All the angels stood around the throne, and along with the elders and the four living creatures they fell facedown before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying,

Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom
and thanksgiving and honor
and power and strength
be to our God forever and ever. Amen. (Revelation 7:9-12 CSB)

Was this a special service at the throne?

Was this a daily experience in heaven?

Will I recognize people who’ve gone before me?

Will there be a worship band in heaven?

I don’t have to wonder Who is the center of attention in heaven – the Son of God who brought salvation to us. This insight to a worship experience in heaven really moves my heart. I’m so thankful for the call He put upon my heart. I’m so thankful that He rewired my heart for Him. I want to live my life here on earth in proper preparation for eternal life with Him!

Worth My Worship

Morning Pray At Beautiful LandscapeI must say that the book of Revelation is quite a unique book of the Bible. It is filled with symbolism and wild descriptive creatures that take some imagination. It sometimes makes me laugh to think how I might describe what John is trying to describe. These creatures seem like something out of a sci-fi movie. John is seeing things that he has never seen before and is trying to describe them in terms of his life experiences and his culture. I do believe that the things we see in heaven will be beyond describing so I’m giving the brother a break as I read this one-of-a-kind book.

The scene is worship. There are creatures that are weird looking in heaven and there are 24 Elders surrounding the throne. The Son of God is on the throne – bright and colorful beyond describing. Worship breaks out often. Check this out…

Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor, and thanks to the one seated on the throne, the one who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before the one seated on the throne and worship the one who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne and say,

11 Our Lord and God,
you are worthy to receive
glory and honor and power,
because you have created all things,
and by your will
they exist and were created. (Revelation 4:9-11CSB)

I am pushed back in my chair this morning as I visualize this scene. John had spent personal one-on-one time with Jesus while He walked the earth. Someone beyond description was now in front. He was seeing Jesus in splendor and majesty. I wonder if John was remembering the blind man healed or the lame guy walking after meeting Jesus. I wonder if John was remembering Lazarus who was brought back from the dead. I wonder if John was remembering the scene at the foot of the cross with Jesus’ mother. John had to be blown away with the scene, but he understood the words as the 24 elders worshiped. The Lord is so worthy of my worship.

Bag with inheritanceI have 5 amazing kids and my family has expanded with two my sons marrying great ladies and now they have children of their own. I find myself reflecting on my journey as I look at the kids. I often see myself in something they do or the way they say something. It seems like a life-time ago since they were babies. I will sometimes have conversations with my parents or my wife’s parents and they reflect similarly – they remember us being small sometimes like it was yesterday.

I started reading the book of Hebrews this morning and this book starts out declaring the importance of Jesus, the Son of God. The Hebrew writer is a mystery, although he writes like Paul. The content is strong as he describes Jesus. Check this out…

In these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son. God has appointed him heir of all things and made the universe through him. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact expression of his nature, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. So he became superior to the angels, just as the name he inherited is more excellent than theirs. (Hebrews 1:2-4 CSB)

I love it when someone is blessed by something one of my kids has done. I love it when they say I favor. I tell everyone that my youngest son Luke looks the most like me! (In case you didn’t know, he’s my Nicaragua son!) I want my kids to grow up being honorable, honest adults who serve the Lord.

The older I get, the more I start thinking of what sort of inheritance I’m leaving for my children. First, I want to leave an inheritance of faith in Christ. The Lord changed my life when I surrendered my heart to Him many years ago. The Lord changed the way I love my wife, the way I parent my children and the kind of friend I am to others. I believe knowing the Lord has been the most pivotal choice of my entire life. I was young when I made that decision, but it’s been affirmed many times over as I get older. As I read the Word of God, my faith gets deeper and stronger. My inheritance with Him is His Presence forever in heaven. My family receives that incredible inheritance as well because they’ve given their heart to Him as well.

I try not to worry about how this life comes to a close because of the promise of my inheritance. I want to simply trust Him and walk with Him every day that I have ahead.

LucasFullSizeRenderIt was 7 years ago next month that I first met a young boy from Nicaragua named Lucas. He still remembers meeting me for the first time, even the clothes I was wearing. There were four families in our church seeking to adopt 5 siblings from Nicaragua and bring them back to Carroll County, Georgia. I can’t begin to put into words the events that happened from June 2010 to February 2011, but we landed in Atlanta with all five kids legally adopted! There were some heroes involved and some amazing miracles from the Lord that helped us pull that off. Today my son Lucas graduates from high school and we are so excited with him.

I must say that I’ve learned more about my Heavenly Father since becoming a Dad. Luke was my 5th child so I had some experience being Dad. I still can’t describe the fulfillment of being a Dad and how much love I have for them. When Luke came along, that same love started coming out. He was nearly 12 years old, but the love that the Lord had for me really helped me love Luke even deeper. We had missed so much of Luke’s childhood. It hasn’t always been easy over the past 6.5 years, but God has shown us even more how to love deeply like He loves. Check this out…

14 For all those led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons. 15 You did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear. Instead, you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father!” 16 The Spirit himself testifies together with our spirit that we are God’s children, 17 and if children, also heirs—heirs of God and coheirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. (Romans 8:14-17 CSB)

I am an adopted son of God. He made me an heir to all the promises and the future that He’s prepared.  I am so humbled to think about the Lord adopting me into His family. I am certainly not perfect and I’m sure I hurt Him at times and embarrass Him, but He just keeps loving me.

Today as Luke graduates, there is a sense of accomplishment for him. Tina and I also feel a sense of accomplishment as he gets ready to enter the work force and build a life of his own. It’s exciting to look back on the journey when growth and progress happen. It’s hard in the middle of it because we can’t always measure the progress.

My walk with the Lord sometimes feels stale and slow but I just keep plugging along. He honors my faithful “plugging along”. He speaks to me. He sustains me. He encourages me. I am His son. I am adopted into His family with an incredible future. I am so thankful to know the Lord and the promise and purpose that He gives for my life and the hopeful future that is ahead.

Jesus man of joyJesusThis word carries some pretty big expectations with it. It means complete accuracy, free from any flaw or defect. Perfect means complete. Jesus Christ was PERFECT in every way as the Son of God. He did not have a weakness that the enemy could exploit. He was perfectly suited for what He came to do. Check this out….

23 Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; 24 but because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. 25 Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
26 Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. 27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. 28 For the law appoints as high priests men in all their weakness; but the oath, which came after the law, appointed the Son, who has been made perfect forever. (Hebrews 7:23-28 NIV)

Jesus was the PERFECT sacrifice for sin – because He was without sin. He offers a solution to my sin – forgiveness. He intercedes on my behalf. He was the ultimate sacrifice for sin. Jesus – Only Jesus can bring salvation AND eternal life!

I love this song by Matt Redman, called: “Jesus, Only Jesus”.

Jesus – ONLY Jesus

Jesus signI grew up wondering about all the different churches like Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, Nazarene, Catholic, etc…  I was a bit confused about so many different kinds of churches. As I grew older, I begin to understand the differences between the different churches – I must say that it makes me a bit sad. As I grew up and checked out things more carefully, I realized that most all of the churches I know of preach and teach that Jesus is the ONLY Son of God. I began to look carefully about what these churches do with Jesus. Paul speaks clearly to the church at Corinth about staying on track with their trust in Jesus. Check this out…

3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 4 For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the Spirit you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough. (2 Corinthians 11:3-4 NIV)

I have a lot of different opinions about a lot of different matters related to my faith. One part is crystal clear – Jesus is the one & only Son of God. He came to earth – lived a sinless life and became the perfect sacrifice for my sin. I can’t quite wrap my head around that kind of love, but I will accept it and embrace the forgiveness and grace that Jesus brought into my world.  There are times that it’s not logical to have faith – but I believe in Him anyway. There are times when I don’t understand and can’t figure out what just happened – I will believe in Him anyway. I want to walk with Him and trust Him all the days of my life here on earth. I believe that Jesus is THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE!

Matt Redman wrote and recorded an amazing song that blesses me. (Jesus Only Jesus)
