Trust Protection

ProtectedI have often thought about how I will defend my family if our home were broken into. We have an alarm system to give early warning and I have a plan that does involve a gun. I will do whatever it takes to protect my family. I would give my life to protect them. I think it’s incredible the way the sons of Korah have written a song about trusting the Lord to protect. Check this out…

 6 I put no trust in my bow,

    my sword does not bring me victory;
7 but you give us victory over our enemies,

    you put our adversaries to shame.
8 In God we make our boast all day long,

    and we will praise your name for ever. (Psalm 44:608 NIV)

As my kids grew older and received their driver’s license and even moved out of the house, I could no longer be their protector. They were really always under God’s protection, but I could at least help. The Lord is the Great Protector. He can protect me from a nation or any one trying to take me out. He protects me from me. I’m still learning to trust Him more each day for protection and provision.

Negatives Positives Computer Keys Showing Plus And Minus Alternatives Analysis And DecisionsI’ve heard coaches that say: “The best offense is a good defense.” There are times when I need defended. There are circumstances beyond my control and I feel pushed on, put down and attacked. I must put up a defense. Some defense requires offense. I have learned in my journey of faith that the Lord can and will defend me. I am still learning to trust Him with my defense. Check this out….

1 Contend, Lord, with those who contend with me;

    fight against those who fight against me.
2 Take up shield and armor;

    arise and come to my aid.
3 Brandish spear and javelin

    against those who pursue me.
Say to me,

    ‘I am your salvation.’
9 Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord

    and delight in his salvation.
10 My whole being will exclaim,

    ‘Who is like you, Lord?

You rescue the poor from those too strong for them,

    the poor and needy from those who rob them.’ (Psalm 35:1-3; 9-10 NIV)

I’m learning that walking in faith is a daily experience. I can’t get enough ahead for tomorrow, but I can rest in Him today. I need not worry about tomorrow – He’s got that. I am so grateful for the defense and protection of the Lord. He protects me from others and sometimes from myself. I need His protection and I need Him to be my defense. I love that not only is He my Protector, but He’s also my Provider. I’m living in under Him today and everyday!

My Fort

vintage US postage stampsI remember as a kid visiting Fort Harrod just outside Lexington, Kentucky. I think the first time was a field trip and then I took my family by years later as a short top on our way to Lexington. It is an old restored fort that dates back to one of the first settlements in the state. The forts were built to protect the settlers from the native Indians who didn’t like people coming in to settle in their land.  The fort, which is short for fortress, became a way of communities helping protect themselves.  A fort meant protection from things outside the fort.

My brothers and sisters and I built play forts and played “Cowboys and Indians” with the cowboys always getting the fort. Today the kids build tree houses, and tree stands for hunting. We need protection from outside elements in most every area of life. The Psalmist David speaks of the Lord as a fort or fortress. Check this out….

Praise be to the Lord,

    for he has heard my cry for mercy.
7 The Lord is my strength and my shield;

    my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.

My heart leaps for joy,

    and with my song I praise him.
8 The Lord is the strength of his people,

    a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.
9 Save your people and bless your inheritance;

    be their shepherd and carry them for ever. (Psalm 28:6-9 NIV)

There are times when I feel like I need the protection of the Lord from others who are trying to hurt me. There are other times when I feel like I need protection from me. I am often my own worst enemy. The Lord is Mighty Fort and He offers protection that nothing or no one else can possibly offer.

He provides me protection.

He provides me salvation.

He provides me strength.

He provides me with a bright future!

I’m so thankful for the provision & protection of the Lord.

Punishment Security IconsMy clothes protect my body from the elements. I can hardly imagine what it would be like to be exposed to the burning sun without protection. I also can’t imagine exposure to extreme cold without protection of my clothing or a warm coat. The fact is I need protection from lots of things. I need protection from bad people, so I’m thankful for our law enforcement as well as military who protect me from bad people.

The Lord is my ultimate Protector. He knows my needs. He knows my weaknesses. He knows the desires of my heart – good or bad. He knows me. He loves me. He protects me. Check this out…

11 But let all who take refuge in you be glad;

    let them ever sing for joy.
Spread your protection over them,

    that those who love your name may rejoice in you.
12 Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous;

    you surround them with your favor as with a shield. (Psalm 5:11-12 NIV)

I feel protected by the Lord. I feel like His Presence is like a blanket of protection spread over me. His Presence in me is a huge game-changer. He has the Power to Protect me from anything and everything. He not only protects me, but surrounds me with His Favor. I really want the Lords favor on my family. I want His favor on my work. I want His favor on my life.  I want His favor all over me like a protective shield.  I’m going to rest under the favor of The Lord today and every day!

ArmorI sometime wonder how men fought with a full suit of armor in medieval times. I mean the protection of this heavy suit had to make them slower and more vulnerable to the enemy at times. Today when S.W.A.T. comes on the scene, they are equipped with an armor of sorts – the bulletproof vest, helmet and sometimes a shield. Most police in the field are equipped with the bulletproof vest to protect their heart and other vital organs. I think it’s wise to think about protection when stepping up to battle a fire, a perpetrator or an enemy combatant.

Paul speaks about a different kind of protection – armor. He talks of a different sort of battle as well. Check this out…

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. (Ephesians 6:10-18 NIV)

I often feel like that I’m squarely in the midst of a spiritual battle. The enemy can’t be seen, but he’s often personified in another person. They aren’t aware of being used by him for him. Most of the time the battle is straight up battle with an enemy that is in the spirit realm and not in the physical realm. I try to live my life to honor God and he’s attacking me at my weakest point, trying to snag me in his trap. In way too many battles, he gets me. I’ve learned over the years that when I equip myself with the Word of God, I am putting on the Armor of God. I have discovered more about Who my Help is and Where He comes from while studying the Word. He is real and He is ALWAYS READY to help me defeat the enemy.  I am suiting up this morning and ready to take on the day. This Armor is not cumbersome and big, it’s actually pretty light-weight, yet tough!

A Great Prayer For Protection

I think that every time my kids leave the house or get ready to drive off across town, I tell them to be careful. I know that I want them to be alert and careful everywhere they go. I also know that my Mom still tells me this even though I’m old, I’m still her kid. I’m not naïve enough to think that there is magic in those words, but I might be better off to pray for them as they leave. David offers a prayer for protection that I can pray over my life and also pray over my children. Check this out…

1 God, hear my cry;
listen to my prayer.
2 I call to you from the ends of the earth
when I am afraid.
Carry me away to a high mountain.
3 You have been my protection,
like a strong tower against my enemies.
4 Let me live in your Holy Tent forever.
Let me find safety in the shelter of your wings.
5 God, you have heard my promises.
You have given me what belongs to those who fear you.
6 Give the king a long life;
let him live many years.
7 Let him rule in the presence of God forever.
Protect him with your love and truth.
8 Then I will praise your name forever,
and every day I will keep my promises. (Psalm 60:1-8 NCV)

I need protection every day from fear, worry, stress, hurt, hate, injury & death. I want to live a full life that honors my creator and blesses my children, my family and my friends. I want others to see God in the deepest pockets of my life. I need protection from the Lord in order to live like that.
