Called

Phone vector iconsI sometimes have a hard time explaining to someone how God called me. I can’t say that He spoke to me in an audible voice like I would do to call one of my kids. He didn’t have someone else call me. He does use others to speak into my life for sure, but I felt like He called me to be right where I am. I believe the call of God is the direction He wants to give me. He wants to lead me in my daily decisions. He wants to lead me in my life changing decisions. I believe the call of God comes directly from my relationship with Him. He’s probably called me a lot more often than I realize, because I wasn’t listening due to the “noise” in my life. Check this out…

17 Let each one live his life in the situation the Lord assigned when God called him. This is what I command in all the churches.

22 For he who is called by the Lord as a slave is the Lord’s freedman. Likewise he who is called as a free man is Christ’s slave. 23 You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of people. 24 Brothers and sisters, each person is to remain with God in the situation in which he was called. (1 Corinthians 7:17, 22-24 CSB)

I believe that the Lord calls me daily through His Word.

I believe the Lord calls me daily through His people.

I believe the Lord calls me daily through places I go.

I believe the Lord calls me daily as I listen to Him speak.

God’s calling on my life, no matter what He calls me too, is Holy because He is Holy. I believe sometimes just resting can be a Holy Moment. I believe that the Lord calls me throughout the day to listen sharper and more intentional to Him speaking into my heart. I believe God calls us all the time, but we’re often to busy listening to ourselves that we miss His call.

See His Face

bifocal glassesI can remember faces way better than I can remember the names that go with the faces. This drives me nuts, because I realize the importance of remembering someone’s name. I was at a gathering just yesterday and it seemed like our whole town was there and I saw a lot of people I know. There were several people that I knew their face and I would ask my wife if she knew them and could help me with a name. I’m sure that there is a finite number of names that I can remember, but I remember faces. I wish that could count.

King David penned a lot of the Psalms speaking of seeing God. I came across one this morning where God is also seeing us. Check this out…

1 In the Lord I take refuge.

    How then can you say to me:

    ‘Flee like a bird to your mountain.

2 For look, the wicked bend their bows;

    they set their arrows against the strings

to shoot from the shadows

    at the upright in heart.

3 When the foundations are being destroyed,

    what can the righteous do?’

4 The Lord is in his holy temple;

    the Lord is on his heavenly throne.

He observes everyone on earth;

    his eyes examine them.

5 The Lord examines the righteous,

    but the wicked, those who love violence,

    he hates with a passion.

6 On the wicked he will rain

    fiery coals and burning sulphur;

    a scorching wind will be their lot.

7 For the Lord is righteous,

    he loves justice;

    the upright will see his face. (Psalm 11:1-7 NIV)

I believe that I’ve seen the face of God. I see His face in the face of a child. I’ve seen His face in the eyes of an elderly person. I’ve see His face in the eyes of many other people that He created and built. He wired all of us to honor Him with our lives. He built us to serve and love one another. I believe He sees what I do and where I go. I believe if I will look with eyes of faith, I can see His face everywhere I go. The Lord looks upon my life and He wants me to look upon Him.

Momentum

Build Momentum Checklist Clipboard Moving ForwardThis can be are really cool word, especially when it’s coming my way. This word implies energy, strength and impulse among others. Momentum can be a precious commodity that shifts from one person to the next rather quickly. I enjoy watching college basketball in the fall and winter. It’s crazy how one team can be winning by 15 or 20 points, then the momentum shifts and the winning team can’t seem to keep the score and the other teams makes a comeback. Momentum can swing back and forth without warning.

David was a shepherd boy who was anointed to be the next King of Israel. King Saul employed him to play music and then he started serving and leading in the army. The Lord gave David success. Saul becomes very jealous of David and David fled for his life. David is hiding in the desert to stay alive and a movement begins that he didn’t orchestrate. Fighting men start to join him to protect him and provide for him as their leader. Check this out…

16 Other Benjamites and some men from Judah also came to David in his stronghold. 17 David went out to meet them and said to them, “If you have come to me in peace to help me, I am ready for you to join me. But if you have come to betray me to my enemies when my hands are free from violence, may the God of our ancestors see it and judge you.”

18 Then the Spirit came on Amasai, chief of the Thirty, and he said:

“We are yours, David!

    We are with you, son of Jesse!

Success, success to you,

    and success to those who help you,

        for your God will help you.”

So David received them and made them leaders of his raiding bands. (1 Chronicles 12:16-18 NIV)

David is now leading a movement with incredible momentum. He could have taken Saul out on his own terms, but he didn’t believe in harming the Lord’s anointed. He knew that the Lord would help him make the transition to the kingship when it was time. David had amassed a significant army without recruitment. He had momentum on his side. He had a cause that was larger than he was. He was led by the Lord even as the movement grew in leaps and bounds.

I believe the Lord creates momentum. I would rather slower momentum that comes from the Lord than to out grow my ability to manage what He has blessed me with. I would rather have the Lord’s momentum than any amount of fame or fortune. The momentum that the Lord provides leads to eternal life. The momentum in this life still comes to an end.

I want to be committed to the Lord’s cause/movement. It has great purpose and depth with a great goal in sight. It is way bigger than anything I could bring and even the sum of all its parts. Creator God is the Leader of this movement and He calls the shots. I will follow Him wherever He leads. He always has momentum on His side.
