His Life

78dce9ff-d3f7-420a-b85a-bd27a77f191bI sometimes think that this is my life, but it’s really not mine. There is so much in my life that I can’t control and I can’t let the fear of what could happen rob me of living my life to the fullest. I am reminded in His Word that He is in charge of everything, I’m simply a manager of what the Lord has blessed me with.

John the Baptist was baptizing people as they repented of their sins. He called out some of the religious leaders who were too proud to repent. Check this out…

Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God. Don’t just say to each other, ‘We’re safe, for we are descendants of Abraham.’ That means nothing, for I tell you, God can create children of Abraham from these very stones. 10 Even now the ax of God’s judgment is poised, ready to sever the roots of the trees. Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire. (Matthew 3:8-10 NLT)

My friend and Pastor, Shannon Lovelady said yesterday that “when Jesus has the proper place in my heart, He displaces everything else in my life.” That is a strong and powerful thought. He is either, Lord of all or NOT Lord at all.  I think that this is a daily decision, NOT just another resolution. This is a life decision to surrender my life to Him. I want to know Him more and I want Him to have the proper place in my life every day. His Life should be obvious in my life.

Hold Firmly

HandshakeI remember at a very young age swinging from “the monkey bars” on the playground.  Part of the key to navigating “the monkey bars” was a strong grip. It also took some upper body strength to accomplish that.

As I get older, my grip may not be as strong as it once was. My physical body has changed a good bit in the last 40 years. My spiritual grip has improved greatly over the years. I’ve learned to hold on to the Word of God. I’ve learned that His promises are true. I’ve learned that His Presence is real. I don’t want to lose my grip on my faith.

As John was experiencing some additional mind-blowing scenes happening in heaven. He was approached by an angel who spoke to him. It was an encounter of teaching. Check this out…

And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” And he added, “These are true words that come from God.”

10 Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers and sisters who testify about their faith in Jesus. Worship only God. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus.” (Revelation 19:9-10 NLT)

Don’t worship the messenger unless He’s Jesus.  I have tremendous respect for great pastors and teachers. I have read multiple books from some of my favorite, beloved pastors. It’s important for me to remember that they are not worthy of my worship. I have to be careful of the status that I give them. They are human. Yes – they are devoted followers of the Lord, but the Lord is ONLY ONE worthy of my worship. I want to hear from Him. I want to worship Him. I want to hold firmly to His hand as I navigate this life. I want to hold firmly to His hand no matter what I face in the future. He is the ONLY ONE Who can lead me from this earthly life to eternal life. He has a firm grip and I’m wise to hold on to Him and worship Him only.

Chain Of Command

Leadership iconThere is always a chain of command. Every company and organization has one. It is often written down and followed carefully. There always has to be a leader who can make the tough decisions. A chain of command doesn’t mean the leader is the only one who can make a decision – it really means “the buck stops with him”. A wise leaders consults his team before making a decision that affects them drastically.

The Lord is the Ultimate Leader. He doesn’t need to consult with anyone or anybody before making a decision. The cool thing is that He listens to my petitions and my cry for help.

He created me.

He cares for me.

He knows me.

The people of Israel were going to be restored because the Lord told them that their days of discipline wouldn’t last forever. He gives the word through Jeremiah that they had hope. Check this out…

33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel

after that time,” declares the Lord.

“I will put my law in their minds

and write it on their hearts.

I will be their God,

and they will be my people.

34 No longer will they teach their neighbor,

or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’

because they will all know me,

from the least of them to the greatest,”

declares the Lord.

“For I will forgive their wickedness

and will remember their sins no more.”

35 This is what the Lord says,

he who appoints the sun

    to shine by day,

who decrees the moon and stars

    to shine by night,

who stirs up the sea

    so that its waves roar—

the Lord Almighty is his name:

36 “Only if these decrees vanish from my sight,”

    declares the Lord,

“will Israel ever cease

    being a nation before me.”

37 This is what the Lord says:

“Only if the heavens above can be measured

and the foundations of the earth below be searched out

will I reject all the descendants of Israel

because of all they have done,”

declares the Lord. (Jeremiah 31:33-37 NIV)

The Lord God is “Large and In Charge”. He is the Creator of All. He sustains everything. He has proven to me time and time again that He can carry me and everything and everyone upon His shoulders. I am always subject to His leadership. I could be the President of these United States and I would still be subject to His leadership in my life. He is Lord over everything – there are no exceptions to His chain of command.

What And Who

idolsThe object of my affection and my attention quickly becomes that which I value deeply. I may value my family above all my possessions. I may value my possessions over friends. The things I value can take the place of the Lord in my life if I’m not aware and working to keep Him in His proper place.

I’ve never been guilty of making a carved image and then worshipping the carving. I personally think it’s stupid to worship a statue of any kind. The Lord I serve and The God of the Bible is alive and doesn’t need a carving to make me aware of His Presence. His Presence in me means more than any inanimate object. Check this out….

13 Your name, Lord, endures forever,

your renown, Lord, through all generations.
14 For the Lord will vindicate his people

and have compassion on his servants.
15 The idols of the nations are silver and gold,

    made by human hands.
16 They have mouths, but cannot speak,

    eyes, but cannot see.
17 They have ears, but cannot hear,

nor is there breath in their mouths.
18 Those who make them will be like them,

and so will all who trust in them. (Psalm 135:13-18 NIV)

I don’t want anything or anyone to take the place of the Lord in my life. I don’t want to serve any God except Creator God. I think it’s stupid if I put His creation and created ones over and above the One Who created them in the first place. I must learn to grow in my trust and pursue honoring Him and worshipping Him. I love that word “renown”. This word implies His Fame and Him being known everywhere by everyone. I want everyone to know that I know Him and I follow Him.

My Help Comes From The Lord

Worship to GodI’ve learned to be dependent on the One Who is dependable. I’m constantly learning to trust Him more. I sometimes catch myself trying to do things my way and on my terms, but I can’t begin to touch the success rate of the Lord. I want Him to be heavily involved in everything I do, whether it’s my deeply personal, ministry or my Real Estate world. He is Everything to me!  Check this out…

1 I lift up my eyes to the mountains—

where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the Lord,

the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip—

    he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel

    will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord watches over you—

    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day,

    nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all harm—

    he will watch over your life;
8 the Lord will watch over your coming and going

both now and forevermore. (Psalm 121:1-8 NIV)

Maker of heaven, giver of life

You are my strength, my song in the night

My refuge, my shelter, now and forevermore

My help comes from the lord

Jesus signI believe that everyone has someone who is superior to him or her. I don’t know any one in any position that doesn’t answer to someone. Even if I am a partner and one of the owners in my own business, I still have accountability.  I hold my partners accountable and they hold me accountable. An important part in any relationship I have is to know where I fit in the relationship. If it’s a casual friendship, then there is distance. If it’s a close personal friend, then I feel much closer. If it’s a boss that I work for and respect, they can become a friend, but they are still my superior.

Relationships are tricky and challenging but incredibly rewarding.  I’m a friend with people in power and regular people like me. If I can figure out my place in each relationship, then I really better understand what I bring to the relationship. If I approach my relationships with serving in mind, I think I’m more like my best friend, Jesus.  Check this out….

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs. (Hebrews 1:1-4 NIV)

Jesus was in charge when He walked the earth, yet He came to save – not act superior. He was there and involved in Creation, yet He didn’t act superior to His creation as he walked the earth.  The Word also says, that the Son of God is the “exact representation” of His Father, God. If I’ve seen Jesus, then I’ve seen God.

Jesus walked the earth and even though He was God – He served.  He loved even the imperfect, broken people that He created. He was Superior, but didn’t use that position to His advantage; He used it to my advantage. He willingly gave His life for the Ultimate Sacrifice for my sin.

I live and serve/work because He called me to a life that honors Him. His life is a bit radical and different than “normal” – whatever that is. He really is my Superior and He really did come to seek and save lost people. I’m so glad He came. I surrender to His call and I want to serve Him always.
