Test Trials

Child in medicine maskTest trials are also known as “Clinical Trials” and these are implemented when trying to find a specific drug or medical protocol that will attack a certain disease or illness. These are tests of sorts and often, they are “last ditch efforts” to help fight certain types of disease.

The book of James comes out of the gate with some crazy ideas regarding trials of life and suffering. This is a different kind of test. Check this out…

Consider it a great joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you experience various trials, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing.

12 Blessed is the one who endures trials, because when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. (James 1:2-4,12 CSB)

I’ve been through a few trials and suffering in my life and I did not think they were great joy. I will submit that the trials and sufferings built somethings inside of me that weren’t there before. I admit that I was pretty “ticked off” at God because of the trials and suffering, but then when I settled down, I realized that He would not leave. He would walk with me through the trial and He always has a different perspective on my trials from where He “sits”. It is very easy to lose perspective during a trial.

I believe that God has taught me things during trials and suffering that I couldn’t have learned any other way. I learned a lot about me and what I was “made of”. I also learned a lot about the faithfulness of The Lord. He is so patient and understanding while I’m reeling and frustrated. He holds me when I’m hurt and angry. He sits with me when I can’t even talk. I have a different perspective completely on all of life. I want Him with me as I celebrate the joy of life and I know He will be with me when I’m in a trial time or suffering time. He helps me make lemonade out of lemons. He helps me navigate through the dark ally of trial and struggle.

In the middle of one particular trial this song blessed me. “Let Me Feel You Shine” by David Crowder Band.

Greatness Of God

Worship to GodI can’t begin to describe how great God is. I’m simply a man created by Him. I feel quite small in His Presence.  When I look closer at Who He is and all that He has done, I’m blown away that He loves me and walks with me. He makes me feel very special. As I look into His Word and seek not only what He has done, but He’s still doing, I’m humbled that He cares for me…He listens to me….He loves me.  Check this out….

 1 Praise the Lord, my soul.
Lord my God, you are very great;

    you are clothed with splendor and majesty.
2 The Lord wraps himself in light as with a garment;
   he stretches out the heavens like a tent
3  and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters.

He makes the clouds his chariot

    and rides on the wings of the wind.
4 He makes winds his messengers,
    flames of fire his servants.
5 He set the earth on its foundations;

    it can never be moved.
31 May the glory of the Lord endure forever;

    may the Lord rejoice in his works—
32 he who looks at the earth, and it trembles,

    who touches the mountains, and they smoke.
33 I will sing to the Lord all my life;

    I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
34 May my meditation be pleasing to him,

    as I rejoice in the Lord. (Psalm 104:1-5; 31-34 NIV)

My response to the Lord is worship.

My response to the Lord is praise.

My response to the Lord is obedience.

My response to the Lord is honor.

My response to the Lord is living for Him.

My response to the Lord is a song.

God’s Not Dead!

Popcorn and movie tickets with clapper board on whiteThis motion picture by this title opened this past Friday to the public and I had the opportunity to see the movie with my wife, Tina, our two youngest sons, and several people from our church. I must say that the cheesy acting in a “Christian film” does generally not surprise me, because the budget is lacking to pay premium actors. This movie was different. It had a great story line, great actors and cinematography to go with it. It was inspiring and insightful. Oh and I almost forgot the title of the film is a statement that I’ve “hung my hat on” for years. I know for sure that God is most definitely NOT dead!

This morning as I read my next schedule passage of the Word of God, I came across a Psalm that just underscored what I experienced in watching the movie last evening. Check this out….

The Lord reigns forever;

    he has established his throne for judgment.
8 He rules the world in righteousness

    and judges the peoples with equity.
9 The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,

    a stronghold in times of trouble.
10 Those who know your name trust in you,

    for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. (Psalm 9:7-10 NIV)

I trust in the Lord with all my heart. I keep finding areas of my heart that have been tucked away for my safekeeping. I need to surrender all of me to Him. He is more than capable of knowing me and showing me the choices to make that honor Him most. I don’t know what today holds, but I know the One Who holds it.  He is a Rock when the foundations of my life are shaken. He protects me from others and myself who want to harm me. His Presence in me has been the biggest game changer ever and I want to walk with Him and trust Him all the rest of the days of my life!

So God is definitely NOT dead – He is surely alive because He’s living inside me as well as many others I know.  I love the song by the same title that the Newsboys performed in the movie. It’s worth a listen here.

I’ve living this statement out the rest of my life: God is NOT Dead – He’s very much alive and living inside me!
