Up Then Down

Live on Purpose Words on Bulletin Board Fulfilling LifeI’ve heard it said, “what goes up must come down”. I think this quote was credited to Sir Isaac Newton who was an English scientist credited with writing the Law of Gravitation. Gravity is a force to be reckoned with. It’s pretty hard to deny something that is this strong all around me every day. I actually rarely think about the law of gravity, because I’m too busy living my life to think much about it.

Obadiah spoke about the fall of Edom, one of the enemies of the people of Israel. Edom was a descendent of Esau and the people of Israel were God’s chosen people from the linage of Jacob. The Lord had punished His people for their disobedience and He was about to deliver them. Obadiah explains to them that the Lord is about to bring them down. Check this out….

4 Though you soar like the eagle

    and make your nest among the stars,

    from there I will bring you down,’

declares the Lord.

15 ‘The day of the Lord is near

    for all nations.

As you have done, it will be done to you;

    your deeds will return upon your own head.

17 But on Mount Zion will be deliverance;

    it will be holy,

    and Jacob will possess his inheritance. (Obadiah 1:4,15,17 NIV)

When I’m on top of the world, I need to remember how I got there. I also need to remember that life is full of ebb and flow. I won’t always be up and I won’t always be down. I also need to remember that in order to climb to the top that I don’t “step on” others to get there. I’ve seen people do this and live to regret it because their success comes at the expense of others. I really want to give the Lord credit for any success I have. I want to lean into Him and hold on tight when I fail. In every situation, every high and every low – He is still my Rock and my Redeemer. He never fails. He never makes a mistake. He is calm and consistent. I want to honor Him with my life activities and my thoughts. This is easier to say than do. I need His help to honor Him and keep my thoughts pure. He never lets go of me and I’m so very thankful.

Pressing On!

    You have found your calling. You are a great teacher, Dwyane. You need to really think about that. Everytime I read one of your articles, I’m reminded of something I had not thought about or considered.

    Thank you for giving your time and talent.
