The First Humans

I’ve often wondered what it would have been like to live at the time of Abe Lincoln or even back in the wild wild west. I’m pretty sure living out history is never as glamorous as it might appear now. There was a lot of unknown and uncertainty then as there is now – if not more so. The times were very hard and money was very tight, the uncertainty of our very existence as a country was often front and center of peoples minds.

I’ve never really though much about what it would have been like to be Adam – the first human. I do wonder what he was thinking when he named some of the animals. Where did the name for the skunk come from? What was he thinking when he named the orangutans? I wasn’t there to experience this whole new existence. I gradually learned as I grew older a lot about life. Adam was built and planted here as an adult. Check this out…

7 Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23 The man said,

‘This is now bone of my bones

    and flesh of my flesh;

she shall be called “woman”,

    for she was taken out of man.’ (Genesis 2:7; 21-23 NIV)

I’ll bet the Lord was pleased when Adam awoke to see his beautiful helper/wife. I imagine he couldn’t take his eyes off her. I really hate it that He did take his eyes off the Lord. There have been many good men and women who took their eyes of The Creator and were deeply distracted by the creation (aka another human). I must understand and remember that the pursuit of God is eternal while the distractions on this earth, as beautiful as they are, are not eternal.

I want to be the man God created me to be.

I want to walk where He leads me.

I want to live out His will and His way for me.

I am just a human but an Amazing, Gentle, Righteous and All-Powerful God created me.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
