Simple Recipe

Kitchen.I actually like to cook and prepare food. I really like to bake cookies, cakes and such. The part I hate about cooking and baking is the cleaning up afterward. I usually follow the recipe when it’s written down. Some things that I make, I already have the recipe memorized and it’s pretty easy. Then there are those complex recipes that call for multiple ingredients and multiple steps in the process. I have to admit that when the recipe is followed properly, the end product turns out great.

The Lord is leading His people to their new land. They have left the land of Egypt and they were under the leadership of the Egyptians. They were subjected to some ungodly worship and customs. The Lord is now speaking to the people preparing them to come up under His leadership and His government. I came across this one verse that seems to summarize the detailed recipe for living to honor Him. Check this out…

4 You must obey my laws and be careful to follow my decrees. I am the Lord your God. 5 Keep my decrees and laws, for the person who obeys them will live by them. I am the Lord. (Leviticus 18:4 NIV)

That is really simple to understand. The Lord is making it clear what He expects and He’s implying that He will inspect as well. While this is really simple and clear, it’s really harder to do than it sounds. I am pulled and tempted in so many ways and from so many angles, it’s hard sometimes to simply follow God’s recipe for success. He built those boundaries with my protection in mind. Often when I step outside the boundaries, I’m hurting me way more than I’m hurting Him.

This recipe for a good life is simple to remember. I believe I should simply focus on walking with the Lord this morning; then this afternoon and then one day is in the books. Tomorrow I will again focus on the recipe for living. At the end of my life, I hope the product that this day-to-day recipe has produced will bless the heart of God.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
