Secrets Revealed

Top secret stampI have learned over the years to keep my mouth closed on lots of topics. I know things about some people that should not be shared. I have been in the position to learn secrets that would destroy relationships and really harm lots of people if shared. I have also learned the value of having a confidant that I can share my struggles, confess my sin or share my deepest joys with. I can only imagine what it might be like to be in the CIA, FBI, NSA or Secret Service and know some of the stuff that they must keep secret. In fact, my using these acronyms might flag this post to make sure I’m not a terrorist.  The best kept secret is one that is never repeated or shared with anyone.  Jesus is speaking to His disciples and He reminds them that what they do in secret will one day come to light. Check this out…

The time is coming when everything that is covered up will be revealed, and all that is secret will be made known to all.Whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be shouted from the housetops for all to hear!

“Dear friends, don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot do any more to you after that. But I’ll tell you whom to fear. Fear God, who has the power to kill you and then throw you into hell. Yes, he’s the one to fear. (Luke 12:2-5 NLT)

When I read this passage, I was reminded that when you run for political office in our country, your life is searched for any little nugget of a secret unrevealed so that the opponent can have the “upper hand”.  We’ve had good candidates brought down by secrets revealed that happened when they were in college that very few knew about. We had some candidates own their secrets, while others deny that the event in question ever happened. I remember telling one of my kids, that if you are where you’re supposed to be, doing what you’re supposed to be doing, you don’t have to worry about being in trouble with me. It’s when you deceive and lie that you get in trouble with me. My Mom used to remind me that there was always someone watching me.

I want the activities of my life to be known by the Lord. There may be some secrets kept in order to prevent others from stumbling because of the freedoms that I have. I want to always be ready to explain what I’m doing and where I’m at to anyone who asks. I’m accountable for every action before the Lord. I’m also accountable for my activities before my wife and my family.

Most secrets will eventually come to light – it’s important that I live in such a way that the Lord is honored by the activities of my life. I am who I am and you are free to examine my somewhat simple life as I seek to honor God with my daily choices and decisions that ultimately make up my life.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
