Rescued

I was told a funny story about two brothers who were at a party and one brother was “cornered” by someone who was making him very uncomfortable. He takes out his phone and pretends to be checking it, and sends the other brother a text that says, “Help”.  There are times when we all need rescued from a particular situation.

Jeremiah was not popular in Judah and Israel because His message from the Lord was one of doom and gloom. The people had disobeyed the Lord and God had had enough. He was about to allow the Babylonians to capture Jerusalem. Some of the leaders in Jerusalem didn’t like Jeremiah’s message so they decided to kill the messenger by putting him in a well with no food. I guess they didn’t have the courage to kill him outright so they would leave him to starve to death. Check this out….

7 But Ebed-Melech, a Cushite and a servant in the palace, heard that the officers had put Jeremiah into the well. As King Zedekiah was sitting at the Benjamin Gate, 8 Ebed-Melech left the palace and went to the king. Ebed-Melech said to him, 9 “My master and king, these rulers have acted in an evil way. They have treated Jeremiah the prophet badly. They have thrown him into a well and left him there to die! When there is no more bread in the city, he will starve to death.”
10 Then King Zedekiah commanded Ebed-Melech the Cushite, “Take thirty men from the palace and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the well before he dies.”….
13 The men pulled Jeremiah up with the ropes and lifted him out of the well. And Jeremiah stayed under guard in the courtyard of the guard. (Jeremiah 38:7-10, 13 NCV)

I love the courage of the Cushite who spoke up to the king on Jeremiah’s behalf. He put his life on the line to rescue Jeremiah. I believe that the Lord put Jeremiah on the heart of this man in order to rescue him. In the process of rescue, I believe the Lord protected the Cushite man from impending destruction.

The Lord specializes in special rescue. I have seen His work first hand. He has rescued me more than once from my own self-destruction. He has saved me from sin and protected me with His grace. When I pray for help and strength, I feel like the angel armies from heaven come to my rescue.  I’m learning every day to trust the Lord with all my heart to walk where He says walk and ask, “how high?” when He says jump. He is my strong Rescuer all the time!

Pressing On!
Dwayne
