Realization

What can I do? picture about regretThere comes a time when everyone has a moment of realization. It’s kind of like an “aha moment”. This word is defined as “an act of becoming fully aware of something as a fact”. I came across the story of when Adam and Eve first sinned against God and did something that He specifically asked them not to do. Eve had conversation with a serpent (aka snake), which is interesting in itself. I wonder if all the animals could carry on conversations with humans at this time. Check this out….

4 ‘You will not certainly die,’ the snake said to the woman. 5 ‘For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.’

6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized that they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. (Genesis 3:4-7 NIV)

I don’t ever remember realizing that I should wear clothes. I guess as a baby, everything was done for me. I was clothed and cared for until I could care and do for myself. I don’t remember coming to a realization that it’s up to me to get dressed everyday. I was taught to take care of myself. Adam and Eve were adult humans without a care in the world, much like babies. The Lord God took care of them. Evidently in the garden of Eden, the home that God made for them, there was no need for clothing until sin entered. I find it interesting that they realized they were naked after sin entered. They tried to cover themselves in their recent realization. They used fig leaves to make coverings. I also find it interesting that God made clothes too. Check this out…

21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. (Genesis 3:21 NIV)

The first time I read this, it didn’t click with me about what the Lord made garments out of. In order for the Lord to make garments of skin for Adam and Eve, an animal had to die. This is the first sacrifice for sin.

I need to realize the consequences of my sin and how it hurts the Lords heart. I also need to see the consequences of sin upon my heart. This realization should change my future behavior.

Pressing On!
