Precise Measurement

tape measureI recently helped my son Luke build a bicycle ramp. He had designed it in his head and then he began to measure the left over lumber that was to be used. I got involved and help him cut out the pieces. As we were building it, I was reminded of a saying that a friend of mine used when helping me with a project before. He used to say, “we’re not building a piano”! I told Luke more than once that “we weren’t building a piano”!

My other son Matthew is preparing to build a Tiny House. He has detailed plans and dimensions. He’s already had the trailer (aka foundation) built to specific dimensions. The building he’s doing not quite a piano, but following the plans and being precise is very important.

For some reason the Lord gave Ezekiel great detail on the dimensions of the temple. As I walked through chapter 41 this morning, I was reminded that the Lord does thing precisely as He intends. Check this out…

21 The main hall had a rectangular door-frame, and the one at the front of the Most Holy Place was similar. 22 There was a wooden altar three cubits[l] high and two cubits square; its corners, its base and its sides were of wood. The man said to me, ‘This is the table that is before the Lord.’ (Ezekiel 41:21-22 NIV)

After seeing just how many times the man measured something with Ezekiel present told me how important precise measurement is to the Lord. He built special rooms and specific furniture for specific reasons. I’m not yet clear on why Ezekiel was chosen to perform this function with the measuring man.

I do want my life to measure up before the Lord. I want to do follow His plans precisely!

Pressing On!
