Paid For

Human heart anatomy from a healthy bodyWhen I think about the way I’ve treated my body over the years, I’m a bit embarrassed. I admire people who are physically fit and have a strong exercise regimen. I have been there and done that. I remember a time when I ran 3-5 miles in a morning. I got out of the habit and my body got bigger and in worse shape. I sometimes wish I could have a “do over” just to treat my body better. Paul tells the church at Corinth that they need to clean up their act with how they use their body. He speaks specifically about sexual sin. Check this out…

18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. (1 Corinthians 6:18-20 NIV)

I guess when I grasp the fact that that the Lord paid for my sins, I should treat my body more respectfully. He sought me out and bought me. He has got my eternity paid for and my role is to honor Him with my body and with my life here on earth. This is really simple to understand but sometimes hard to manage. My body sometimes tries to control me and the cravings of my flesh put up a really strong fight. I must learn to be strong in the Lord and direct my body instead of it directing me. I want to treat my body as a temple of the Holy Spirit and guard what I put into it.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
