No Comps

Man praying with the BibleIn my work world of Real Estate the comps (aka comparable) really matter when it comes to learning the market value of a particular house (aka: subject property). It’s actually a comparison of one property to another that is similar in location, size and current condition. The value of the property is largely determined by the homes that have sold that the subject compares too. This is the most used way to determine the value of a house is to compare it to another.

I was challenged this morning about this word comparable. When I look at the Lord – I realize that there is no one or nothing that compares to Him. Check this out…

25 ‘To whom will you compare me?
    Or who is my equal?’ says the Holy One.
26 Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens:
    who created all these?
He who brings out the starry host one by one
    and calls forth each of them by name.
Because of his great power and mighty strength,
    not one of them is missing.
27 Why do you complain, Jacob?
    Why do you say, Israel,
‘My way is hidden from the Lord;
    my cause is disregarded by my God’?
28 Do you not know?
    Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
    the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
    and his understanding no one can fathom.
29 He gives strength to the weary
    and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
    and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:25-31 NIV)

This is one of my favorite passages in all of the Bible. I have had my hope renewed by the Lord too many times to count. I will not give up. Even when I’m tired, I will push through. He does renew my strength. He does renew my resolve. I’m not sure why I trust in things here on earth that is temporary. I’m not sure what I trust in my own gifts and abilities since He is the One Who blessed me with any gifts I have. The Lord has no equal. He stands alone as the Creator of the Universe and all that I see and know. I believe He has the power to change my circumstances in big ways. I also believe He has to power to change my heart. I believe He can do anything He wants except fail at anything.

Now that I know Him, there is no one or nothing that compares to knowing Him. This is a favorite song of my from years gone by that came to my mind this morning as I read this passage.

Pressing On!
