My Vote

It’s voting season and the campaign is in full swing. In the United States we have pretty much two political parties and after the two parties have chosen a candidate, the candidates choose a running mate and we’re off toward election day on the first Tuesday in November.  I am always struck by how much power others give to elected officials. The way our government is structured, the people have the power to change anything. It just takes getting organized and structured to bring about change.  As a believer, my hope is not in any candidate – my hope is in the Lord. Check this out…

 1 Praise the Lord!
My whole being, praise the Lord.
 2 I will praise the Lord all my life;
I will sing praises to my God as long as I live.
3 Do not put your trust in princes
or other people, who cannot save you.
4 When people die, they are buried.
Then all of their plans come to an end.
5 Happy are those who are helped by the God of Jacob.
Their hope is in the Lord their God.
6 He made heaven and earth,
the sea and everything in it.
       He remains loyal forever.
7 He does what is fair for those who have been wronged.
He gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets the prisoners free.
8 The Lord gives sight to the blind.
The Lord lifts up people who are in trouble.
The Lord loves those who do right.
9 The Lord protects the foreigners.
He defends the orphans and widows,
but he blocks the way of the wicked.
10 The Lord will be King forever.
       Jerusalem, your God is everlasting.
Praise the Lord! (Psalm 146:1-10 NCV)

Please don’t misunderstand…I definitely have strong political opinions. Those opinions are subject to the Lord. I’m praying that we elect the president that God wants to use. I’m praying that our congressmen and senators will let the Lord lead them in their positions of leadership and power.  Meanwhile, around my house, we are going to honor God and keep trusting Him with daily details. I want more than anything to grow in my trust of Him as I wonder through the details of my daily life.  He’s strong enough and His presence in me makes me strong instead of week.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
