Morning Quiet Time

Man praying with the BibleI love the early morning. Sometimes I simply wake up and my mind goes in motion about things I need to work on or prepare for. I don’t like to start my day until I hear from the Lord and spend some time listening to Him speak to me. I’m not sure when I started doing this, but now it seems really strange if I’m out of town or out of pocket and can’t start my day listening to His Word. This morning I came across a passage in Isaiah that really affirmed my morning commitment. Check this out…

4 The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue,
to know the word that sustains the weary.
He wakens me morning by morning,
wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed.
10 Who among you fears the Lord
and obeys the word of his servant?
Let the one who walks in the dark,
    who has no light,
trust in the name of the Lord
and rely on their God. (Isaiah 50:4,10 NIV)

I really try hard to listen to the Lord on everything and worry about nothing. That is easier said than done. When I catch myself worrying, I can usually recall a verse or passage that reassures me that He will lead me through the darkest night or the most confusing situation. He gives me wisdom and discernment that I can’t explain. He puts ideas in my head that are brilliant. He gives me compassion and keeps my heart shapeable. I respect the Lord from the depths of who I am and who He made me to be. I want the sum total of all I am to bring as much honor to Him as I can possibly muster up.

He loves it when I spend time with Him.

He loves it when I let Him lead my life.

He loves it when I love like Him.

He loves it when all of me points to Him.

He loves it when I’m quiet and I listen to Him.

He loves it when I’m teachable.

He loves it when I have the courage to walk in the way He’s leading.

His mercies are new each morning. He speaks into my heart each morning – sometimes simply and sometimes quite profoundly. I love hearing Him speak. I find rest and peace as I hang out with Him.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
