Momentum

Build Momentum Checklist Clipboard Moving ForwardThis can be are really cool word, especially when it’s coming my way. This word implies energy, strength and impulse among others. Momentum can be a precious commodity that shifts from one person to the next rather quickly. I enjoy watching college basketball in the fall and winter. It’s crazy how one team can be winning by 15 or 20 points, then the momentum shifts and the winning team can’t seem to keep the score and the other teams makes a comeback. Momentum can swing back and forth without warning.

David was a shepherd boy who was anointed to be the next King of Israel. King Saul employed him to play music and then he started serving and leading in the army. The Lord gave David success. Saul becomes very jealous of David and David fled for his life. David is hiding in the desert to stay alive and a movement begins that he didn’t orchestrate. Fighting men start to join him to protect him and provide for him as their leader. Check this out…

16 Other Benjamites and some men from Judah also came to David in his stronghold. 17 David went out to meet them and said to them, “If you have come to me in peace to help me, I am ready for you to join me. But if you have come to betray me to my enemies when my hands are free from violence, may the God of our ancestors see it and judge you.”

18 Then the Spirit came on Amasai, chief of the Thirty, and he said:

“We are yours, David!

We are with you, son of Jesse!

Success, success to you,

and success to those who help you,

for your God will help you.”

So David received them and made them leaders of his raiding bands. (1 Chronicles 12:16-18 NIV)

David is now leading a movement with incredible momentum. He could have taken Saul out on his own terms, but he didn’t believe in harming the Lord’s anointed. He knew that the Lord would help him make the transition to the kingship when it was time. David had amassed a significant army without recruitment. He had momentum on his side. He had a cause that was larger than he was. He was led by the Lord even as the movement grew in leaps and bounds.

I believe the Lord creates momentum. I would rather slower momentum that comes from the Lord than to out grow my ability to manage what He has blessed me with. I would rather have the Lord’s momentum than any amount of fame or fortune. The momentum that the Lord provides leads to eternal life. The momentum in this life still comes to an end.

I want to be committed to the Lord’s cause/movement. It has great purpose and depth with a great goal in sight. It is way bigger than anything I could bring and even the sum of all its parts. Creator God is the Leader of this movement and He calls the shots. I will follow Him wherever He leads. He always has momentum on His side.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
