Love

I’ve said it before that this may be the most over-used and mis-understood word in the English language. For example, I love my kids. I love certain food. I love my house. I love God. I love my spouse. I love my mac book pro. I’m using the same word, but I certainly love my wife more than my computer or my house.  Solomon pens a book called Song of Songs or Song of Solomon and he expresses some deep nuances of his love for a particular person. Check this out…

“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”

8 You are the most beautiful of women.
Surely you know to follow the sheep
    and feed your young goats
       near the shepherds’ tents.
9 My darling, you are like a mare
       among the king’s stallions.
10 Your cheeks are beautiful with ornaments,
       and your neck with jewels.
11 We will make for you gold earrings
with silver hooks. (Song of Solomon 1:8-11 NCV)

The expressions and imagery made me chuckle, but obviously Solomon had a way with words. He expressed his love with strong emotion and didn’t seem a bit embarrassed.

I still have so much to learn about love. I believe the more I know about the Lord, the deeper my ability to love becomes. He is the definition of the word. He loved me before I even knew Him. I believe that love is the greatest characteristic of God and I would do well to make that a strong ingredient of my character.
