Light Force!

Shine on!

In my days of student ministry, I directed a youth choir called “The Light Force”! As I think of that period of my life, it brings a smile. I was part of a successful student ministry and the music and drama really impacted the students who participated as well as the audience who came to the performances. I love light and I believe that my life should have similar characteristics of the light.

Light doesn’t make sound – but doesn’t have to.

Light pushes darkness out.

Light draws me to it.

Isaiah told about a Light that was coming. Jesus was to be known as the Light Of The World!  Check this out…

“Here is my servant, the one I support.

    He is the one I chose, and I am pleased with him.

I have put my Spirit upon him,

    and he will bring justice to all nations.
5 God, the Lord, said these things.
He created the skies and stretched them out.

    He spread out the earth and everything on it.

He gives life to all people on earth,

    to everyone who walks on the earth.
6 The Lord says, “I, the Lord, called you to do right,

    and I will hold your hand
and protect you.

    You will be the sign of my agreement with the people,

    a light to shine for all people.
7 You will help the blind to see.

    You will free those who are in prison,

    and you will lead those who live in darkness out of their prison.
16 Then I will lead the blind along a way they never knew;

    I will guide them along paths they have not known.

I will make the darkness become light for them,

    and the rough ground smooth.
These are the things I will do;

    I will not leave my people. (Isaiah 42:1; 5-7; 16 NCV)

 Jesus is the LIGHT OF THE WORLD! I’m so glad He came. He has given me direction in this decadent and depraved culture I live in. His Light keeps pulling me out of darkness.  The darkness at times seems so thick I could cut it with a knife – but the LIGHT always cuts right through it.

After reading this OT passage, I was flipping over to the NT where I’ve been reading along and my Bible opened to another good word regarding the Light.  Check this out….

13 God has freed us from the power of darkness, and he brought us into the kingdom of his dear Son. 14 The Son paid for our sins, and in him we have forgiveness. (Colossians 1:13-14 NCV)

Jesus is the LIGHT and He has similar characteristics to light. He’s not loud sounding, but you can miss the shine! His presence dispels darkness – light and darkness cannot co-exist. I am so drawn to the Light of the World! I often have to fight off the temptation of darkness but the Light Force /Jesus clearly shows me the way home. I want to be light as a follow the Light!

Light is indeed a Force against darkness.

 Pressing On!
