Helpless & Helper

ChildrenI will never understand how someone can hurt a helpless little child. When I hear stories of child abuse, I cringe. It really sends me sideways to hear of someone hurting a helpless child. I also get pretty upset when I hear of a man abusing his wife verbally or physically. There is simply something wrong when one person is beating down another person just because they can. I always want to pull for the weaker person because I know what it’s like to need help. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve played the role of the bully before and for a moment it works out, but it simply goes against my faith. The Lord teaches that the first shall be last and that the greatest should be least. I read this morning in Psalms that the Lord is present and He will help the least. Check this out…

 12 Arise, Lord! Lift up your hand, O God.

    Do not forget the helpless.
13 Why does the wicked man revile God?

    Why does he say to himself,

    “He won’t call me to account”?
14 But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted;

    you consider their grief and take it in hand.

The victims commit themselves to you;

    you are the helper of the fatherless.
15 Break the arm of the wicked man;

    call the evildoer to account for his wickedness
    that would not otherwise be found out.
16 The Lord is King for ever and ever;

    the nations will perish from his land.
17 You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted;

    you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,
18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed,

    so that mere earthly mortals

    will never again strike terror. (Psalm 10:12-18 NIV)

God is the Ultimate Helper. He knows what I need before I know it. He knows my inmost needs – my inner wiring. He’s the Designer and Creator. He knows me like no one else. He is NEVER helpless, but He is always helpful. He is with me through the storm and He is with me in the midst of the sunshine. With the Lord in my life, I’m never helpless because the Great Helper is on the scene. The evil one might win a battle here and there, but I know Who wins the war!  I’m so thankful for my God – the Helper and Healer!

Pressing On!
