Gracious

Thoughtful little girlThis word carries all sorts of cool meanings. It means: “courteous, kind and pleasant”. The root of the word is one of my favorite words: grace. The Lord is the Author and Inventor of Grace. He displays His gracious love and mercy to me all the time.

Abraham walked with God and became known as a “friend of God”. The Lord had promised to make Abraham a great nation, but had not fulfilled that promise yet. Abraham was an old, old man when God showed up and showed out. Check this out…

1 Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised. 2 Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him. 3 Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him. 4 When his son Isaac was eight days old, Abraham circumcised him, as God commanded him. 5 Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.

6 Sarah said, ‘God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this will laugh with me.’ 7 And she added, ‘Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.’ (Genesis 21:1-7 NIV)

It takes incredible patience on Abraham’s part to wait for the Lord. Sarah was overwhelmed with gratitude to be able to be a Mom. I don’t always understand the ways of the Lord, but I’m learning to trust His Grace-filled heart. He knows what is best for me. He does what is best for me. I can’t always see His Plan through the pain, but there is ALWAYS a plan. The Lord is gracious to me all the time. His mercy is overwhelming at times. I want to be patient as the Lord unfolds all the plans He has for me. I want to be faithful while waiting.

Pressing On!
