Git-R-Done!

Get Things Done handwritingThese words were made famous by Larry the Cable Guy – a comedian named Daniel Lawrence Whitney who is from Nebraska. He tried his hand at many different types of comedy, but he hit it big time after developing the Larry The Cable Guy character. I like this phrase because I like to get things done. If I have a goal or a project, I really like to finish it.

Solomon followed in his fathers David’s footsteps and carried out what the plans to build the temple. It took several years of planning and preparing. It also took several years of building. Check this out…

14 In keeping with the ordinance of his father David, he appointed the divisions of the priests for their duties, and the Levites to lead the praise and to assist the priests according to each day’s requirement. He also appointed the gatekeepers by divisions for the various gates, because this was what David the man of God had ordered. 15 They did not deviate from the king’s commands to the priests or to the Levites in any matter, including that of the treasuries.

16 All Solomon’s work was carried out, from the day the foundation of the temple of the Lord was laid until its completion. So the temple of the Lord was finished. (2 Chronicles 8:14-16 NIV)

Solomon followed through and finished the plans. He carried the plans out that David has laid. I imagine that he had quite a sense of accomplishment. It takes hard work and sticking to it to finish a task of this magnitude.

I need to be reminded every now and then to finish the task before me. I need to stop analyzing or organizing and simple “Git-R-Done”!

As I walk with the Lord today, I want to have this attitude of completing what I’m supposed to do today. I’m not going to put until tomorrow what I should do today.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
