Fresh Bread

bread of communioI love the smell of fresh homemade bread. Over all, I’m not a huge bread fan. There are few types of bread that turn my head. (Hey I’m a poet!) I really like O’Charleys roles – the fresh yeast rolls. I also like a rolls at Olive Garden. My mouth is going to start watering at any minute.  As I read some of Jesus journey with the disciples, I found it interesting the He calls Himself the Bread of Life!

He starts the chapter out, but taking a little boys sack lunch and feeding like 10,000 or more people. (There were 5,000 men.) He then asked the disciple to gather up the leftovers.  Then He began to teach them some deep truth about Who He was. Check this out…

Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from him comes to me. 46 No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father. 47 Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. 50 But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
68 Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.(John 645b-51; 68-69 NIV)

The Bread of Life is different than Sunbeam bread. It is not physical, but spiritual. This bread doesn’t “stick to your ribs or hips” – it settles into your soul. Jesus is speaking some heavy duty truth using a simple ordinary part of our diet to explain. I’m pretty sure all the bread I eat gets flushed right on through my system and out. The Bread of Life that Jesus is speaking of gets digested in my soul and leaves a mark of God’s love on others. I’m changed deeply in my soul because of partaking in the Bread of Life. I want my diet today to include an appropriate portion of Living Bread!!

Pressing On!
Dwayne
