Favor

Man praying with the BibleI remember finding favor with some of my teachers when I was a young boy. I tried to do what was right and follow the rules and boundaries. If I found too much favor, I would be labeled the “teachers pet” and I didn’t want that. I do like finding favor with people. I like it when they like me in return. I’ve found that some people will simply not like me because of a position I hold or something I was quoted as having said. Some people simply don’t like me because of the color of my skin. Over the years I’ve become less and less worried about finding favor with men I really want to find favor with the Lord.

Noah was known for surviving the flood, but before that he found favor with God. Check this out…

8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

9 This is the account of Noah and his family.

Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. 10 Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.

18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark – you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you. 19 You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. 20 Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. 21 You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them.’

22 Noah did everything just as God commanded him. (Genesis 6:8-10; 18-22 NIV)

I’m not sure favor with God is something to be earned. I do think God gives favor to those who are faithful. I want a resume of remembering the goodness of God. I want to remember His faithfulness to me. Remembering reminds me to be good and faithful to Him.

I do want to find favor with God as I walk with Him daily. I want Him to notice my heart is devoted to Him. If others notice too.. oh well. I really want to impress the Lord with my devoted heart. I want my children to have a heart devoted to the Lord. I want them to find favor with Him in their faithfulness as well. At the end of my life, I would love for it to be said of me: “Dwayne did everything just as God commanded him”

Pressing On!

Dwayne
