Family Faith

legacy word in vintage wood typeI grew up going to church as a very young kid. I became a Christian in 3rd grade. I remember the preachers at our little country church. When I was 14 years old, our preacher helped me write a sermon that I preached. (I think it lasted 8 minutes or so. I thought I had 20 minutes worth of material.) I can still remember that I spoke about the importance of attending church. I can’t remember a time when we didn’t go to church as a family. I do remember having a crisis of faith, my freshman year of college. I remember where I was and what I was doing when my faith became my own. I was the son of an elder in the church and I was expected to follow the Lord, but there comes a time when on my own, I could have rejected what I had been taught.

I found in interesting that the people of Israel lost their way without their leader Joshua. The scripture says “they forgot” and they did evil in eyes of the Lord. The Lord is always ready to rescue. Check this out….

9 But when they cried out to the Lord, he raised up for them a deliverer, Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, who saved them. 10 The Spirit of the Lord came on him, so that he became Israel’s judge and went to war. The Lord gave Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram into the hands of Othniel, who overpowered him. 11 So the land had peace for forty years, until Othniel son of Kenaz died. (Judges 3:9-11 NIV)

Caleb’s kid brother was evidently cut from the same cloth of his older brother. He was obviously a follower of God. I believe that I can lead with the Lord’s help. I have no desire to lead without Him. He calms my heart and settles my soul. I simply want to follow Him all the days of life I have left. I also want my children, my grandchildren and my family legacy after me to follow the Lord.

I want the Spirit of God to be on my family, my work and me. I want the Lord intricately involved in every area of my life. I want the Lord to deliver me from me and I welcome the opportunity to be a deliverer on His behalf.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
