Fair

I remember as a kid trying to explain to my parents that some of their punishments weren’t “fair”.  My brothers or sisters got less than me and it simply wasn’t fair.  That may be the first time I heard the phrase: “Life isn’t always fair!” I decided to look the word “fair” up in the dictionary. Fair has like 5 definitions, the two that I’m referring to are: in accordance with the rules or standards; legitimate; just or appropriate in the circumstances. I know judges that do their best to interpret the law in a fair and just way.

Back to the phrase, “Life isn’t always fair”. As I’ve gotten older and have kids of my own, I realize that there is some truth to that statement.  As I’ve grown in my faith, I understand other things about life. I’ve learned that God is fair and just EVERY time. Check this out…

1 The Lord is king.
       Let the peoples shake with fear.
    He sits between the gold creatures with wings.
       Let the earth shake.
 2 The Lord in Jerusalem is great;
       he is supreme over all the peoples.
 3 Let them praise your name;
       it is great, holy and to be feared.
 4 The King is powerful and loves justice.
       Lord, you made things fair;
    you have done what is fair and right
       for the people of Jacob.
 5 Praise the Lord our God,
       and worship at the Temple, his footstool.
       He is holy. (Psalm 99:1-5 NCV)

God is fair and just. He is a forgiving God. I’ve seen people who are forgiven still have to struggle through the consequences of their sin. I’ve seen people who seem to have done everything right suffer deeply. There are things that happen that just don’t seem fair. I’m learning to trust God to figure that all out. If I feel like something that happens to me is unfair, I simply take to Him. He understands and can explain if He so desires. If there is no explanation or if I simply can’t understand why this happened, I have to trust Him with the details. I simply must keep pursuing His heart.  I love the ending of Romans 11. Check this out…

 33 Yes, God’s riches are very great, and his wisdom and knowledge have no end! No one can explain the things God decides or understand his ways. 34 As the Scripture says,
    “Who has known the mind of the Lord,
       or who has been able to give him advice?” — Isaiah 40:13
 35 “No one has ever given God anything
       that he must pay back.” — Job 41:11
 36 Yes, God made all things, and everything continues through him and for him. To him be the glory forever! Amen. (Romans 11:33-36 NCV)

Pressing On!
