Didn’t Die

DevastatedI’ve never heard of anyone that I’ve known who didn’t die. There are quite a few of people younger than me that have died and there are many more who are older than me who have died. I remember being really sad when my grandparents died. They held a special place in my heart. I recently heard of a young man who died suddenly in a auto accident. I can hardly imagine the pain of losing a child to death. Death is coming to us all at some point. We all age differently and there are times that death is a welcome friend to end the suffering and pain of this life.

I’m amazed at how long people lived in the Old Testament. Especially from Adam to Noah – these guys were often near 100 years old before having children. It is believed that the earth was different prior to the flood and people aged differently. This one guy had a son who turned out to be the oldest who lived 969 years, but he (the dad) never died. Check this out….

21 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. 22 After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. 24 Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away. (Genesis 5:21-24 NIV)

I believe that this is the ultimate compliment with how Enoch lived this life. He walked with God faithfully. I really want to walk with God until I breathe my last breath. I must stare temptation down and keep on moving toward the Lord. I want to keep my spiritual journey alive and vibrant until the day that the Lord calls me home. I think it is sometimes scary because I don’t know what exactly happens when I die. Will I instantly be in the Presence of the Lord or am I in a “holding pattern” – there are lots of theories, but the Word doesn’t really spell this out for me. I’m not sure how I’ll leave this earth, but when I do I want to just keep walking with Him into eternity!

Pressing On!

Dwayne
