Delight

Cheerful man showing thumbs up, over whiteI kind of like this word. I know what it means to be delighted and thankful. The word delight means to have a high degree of pleasure or enjoyment. I am delighted to be with my family and simply hang out and visit. I also delight in a quiet evening at home. I also delight in many friendships. I delight in many things that have a lot to do with the people closest to me.

I started my journey through the Psalms this morning and the Psalmist came right out of the gate speaking of the delight that comes from the Word of God and being in His Presence. Check this out…

1 Blessed is the one

who does not walk in step with the wicked

or stand in the way that sinners take

or sit in the company of mockers,

2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,

and who meditates on his law day and night.

3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,

which yields its fruit in season

and whose leaf does not wither—

    whatever they do prospers.

6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,

but the way of the wicked leads to destruction. (Psalm 1:1-3,6 NIV)

This Psalm speaks of delighting and meditating in the law of the Lord. It also includes a promise that comes right out of that. The person will prosper and be protected. I’m definitely into a “prosperity gospel”, but I do believe that the Lord protects and honors those who are faithful to Him.

I started my journey of reading the Word each morning many years ago now – and I can say without pause that I thoroughly enjoy my time with the Lord and His Word each morning. This time gives clarity to the day ahead which can be hectic and stressful. This time in the Word can center my soul on His Plan and His Will for me today. I have learned to trust in Him more because I spend time with Him. I believe that the Lord watches over my day as I begin it with Him. I don’t necessarily believe that he lines everything up for my prosperity today, but I do believe He directs my steps for His Kingdoms interest. I want to delight in Him and live for Him. I want the roots of my life to be deeply connected to His Living Water so that my life bears much fruit for Him and His notoriety. I want to make Him famous with my life.

Pressing On!
