Character

Young man dressing up and looking at mirrorI’ve heard people say, “He’s quite a character!”  I think the term is use when it’s hard to put into words an accurate description of another person’s lively personality.  I’ve met a lot of people who fit that description – if you want to call it that. Character is a multi-faceted term that reflects a person’s individualism and personality. When I think of character I think of a moral code of behavior that reflects a strong and honorable reputation.  I believe character still counts in our culture.

I came across quite a character in chapter 7 of Acts. There were issues among the organizational structure of the early church, so the apostles chose seven men to serve under their leadership and among these was a man named Stephen. Check this out…

….They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. 6 They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.
8 Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people.
15 All who were sitting in the Sanhedrin looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel. (Acts 6:5b-6,8,15 NIV)

I love the description of Stephen – full of faith, Holy Spirit, God’s Grace and power. He clearly exhibited the Spirit of God in his demeanor and his actions. He was obviously a good choice.  I want to continue to build my character to be similar to Stephen. I want to be full of God’s Grace and His Power in my everyday, walking around, normal life. I want my character to reflect the Presence of God in me and I want it to show in my face, my demeanor, my activities of today.

Pressing On!
Dwayne
