Case Law

legal gavel, scales and law bookI have always been drawn in by attorney shows. For example I watched Perry Mason for years as he won case after case. Then along came Matlock who was a bit of a country lawyer but smart as a whip. He didn’t loose many cases either. The latest show that resembles the others is Law & Order. The first half of the show is the enforcement side and the second half of the show is the judicial side.

As I was reading Micah this morning, the Lord makes His case for His people. He gives them a little history lesson (case law) and then lays out exactly what He wants from them (and me).  Check this out….

6 You say, “What can I bring with me

when I come before the Lord,

when I bow before God on high?

Should I come before him with burnt offerings,

    with year-old calves?
7 Will the Lord be pleased with a thousand male sheep?

Will he be pleased with ten thousand rivers of oil?

Should I give my first child for the evil I have done?

Should I give my very own child for my sin?”
8 The Lord has told you, human, what is good;

he has told you what he wants from you:

to do what is right to other people,

    love being kind to others,

and live humbly, obeying your God.
9 The voice of the Lord calls to the city,

and the wise person honors him. (Micah 6:6-9a NCV)

The Lord’s case is pretty simple and straightforward. He doesn’t want me to do all this stuff. He doesn’t want me to give all this money and things to Him. He wants my heart devoted to Him. He wants my kindness to others. He wants me to live humbly before Him. He wants me to obey Him. This is not rocket science – it’s so simple that I might just miss His point.  He created me to love Him – which includes obedience and honor. He also created me to love like He loves – to see others with a kind and gentle heart like His. That same kind and gentle heart is attractive. It attracts me to Him. If I have that sort of heart, then others will be attracted to the Christ that they see in me!

I rest my case in Him!

Pressing On!
Dwayne
