Beginning Of Wisdom

"Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path"

“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”

Wisdom is often overlooked because it comes from someone who is a bit older and more experienced. I used to define wisdom as the correct use of knowledge. While that is partially true, it is not complete.  I remember as a youngster, I sometimes resented someone with wisdom because they were “shooting down” and idea this bright young youth pastor had. I look back at the wisdom of some of those folks that I resented now and I understand clearly.  Wisdom is most definitely an excellent attribute to possess. It is also defined as “the soundness of an action or decision with regard to the application of experience.”

I came across a statement this morning that I’ve seen in the New Testament and I didn’t realize it was most likely a quote from King David. Check this out….

2 Great are the works of the Lord;

    they are pondered by all who delight in them.
3 Glorious and majestic are his deeds,

    and his righteousness endures forever.
4 He has caused his wonders to be remembered;

    the Lord is gracious and compassionate.
7 The works of his hands are faithful and just;

   all his precepts are trustworthy.
8 They are established for ever and ever,

    enacted in faithfulness and uprightness.
9 He provided redemption for his people;

    he ordained his covenant forever—

    holy and awesome is his name.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;

    all who follow his precepts have good understanding.

    To him belongs eternal praise. (Psalm 111:2-4;7-10 NIV)

I realized a good while back as I was getting old, that not all older people are wise. There are older and more experienced people who simply don’t know the Lord or live their life to honor Him. It shows in their lifestyle and their attitudes. They may have some amazing experiences to draw from but if they don’t seek the Lord, I really don’t consider them wise. The Lord God is the Source of all wisdom. He built me. He wired me. He loves me. He teaches me. He lives in me. I want to run after Him. I have met a lot of very young men who figured out that running after the heart of God is actually the Source of Wisdom. These are really wise young men. I wish I knew then what I know now about the beginning of wisdom.

Pressing On!
