Angels

Angels praying - black and whiteI’ve seen kids who acted like angels and I’ve seen kids who act like the devils angels. I’ve always been fascinated with the subject of angels. These beings in scripture are mostly messengers and agents of God Himself. When I see pictures of angels, they almost always have wings and a halo. I’m not sure where that comes from. I should also say upfront that I believe in angels. This passage I came across this morning is one of the reasons I believe in their presence in our world too. Check this out…

1 Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it. (Hebrews 13:1-2 NIV)

I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen an angel, but I’ve heard some interesting stories by people who are convinced that they were assisted by an angel.  I do think the Hebrew writer is taking a good stance here, because if I’m kind, loving and honorable to everyone, then if I meet an angel, I’ll treat him with kindness, love and honor too.

If I believe in angels, then it seems logical that I must believe in their counterparts – demons. These are the opposite of angels. They seek to destroy and wreak havoc on my world because they serve the enemy – Satan.  I believe that when my connection with the Lord is weakened or broken, the demons are on the scene to really wreak things. They are assistants to Satan and they want to see me drown in sin. They have quite a “playbook” of temptations to throw at me – they are very familiar with my weaknesses and they will certainly exploit my weakness.  The thing is though; they are powerless against the Son of God. He is not afraid of them and He empowers me to be strong in walking on the right road. He is Greater and Stronger and He will rescue me every time from the clutches and control of the evil one.  I’ve learned to pray and talk to the Lord when faced with trying circumstances, because when the evil one tries to destroy me, God can use his harmful acts and make life good in spite of the enemy and his previous influence on me.

I believe that God can use what was meant to destroy me to build me. I do believe He sends angels to minister to me, bless me and assist me when He thinks I need them. I must pray and be aware of the enemy trying to steal, kill and destroy me. The closer I get in my walk with the Lord and the more influence I have for the Kingdom, the more ticked off the enemy becomes.  The Apostle Paul was correct, our battle is not against other human beings; it’s a spiritual battle.

I am praying. I am digging into God’s Word. I’m carefully watching and aware of enemy, but he does not paralyze me. I have the Lord in my life and He is more than enough for me!

Pressing On!
Dwayne
