A String Around My Finger

Don't forgetThe older I get, the more forgetful I seem to become. I do remember quite a bit, but there are times it seems I’d forget my head if it weren’t attached at the neck! When I think of the word forget, I see it as “failure to remember” something. It can also mean that I’m putting it out of my mind – deliberately. There are some things that I’m good with forgetting… like something stupid I’ve done, or hurt that someone has caused me. There are other things that I don’t EVER want to forget. Check this out….

1 My son, keep my words

    and store up my commands within you.
2 Keep my commands and you will live;

    guard my teachings as the apple of your eye.
3 Bind them on your fingers;

   write them on the tablet of your heart.
4 Say to wisdom, ‘You are my sister,’

    and to insight, ‘You are my relative.’
5 They will keep you from the adulterous woman,

    from the wayward woman with her seductive words. (Proverbs 7:1-5 NIV)

I’m challenged to store up commands within me.

I’m challenged to keep the commands of the Lord.

I’m challenged to guard the teachings of the Lord.

I’m challenged to tie them on my fingers.

I’m challenged to write them on the tablet of my heart.

I need to do whatever I can to quickly recall the commands of the Lord. They are for my protection from evil. His commands carry with them provision for navigating through life. As I get older and somewhat forgetful, I’m ok with forgetting some things (like where I ate lunch last Wednesday), but certainly not really important things like my core values and convictions. If you see me with a string on my finger, you’ll know why!

Pressing On!
Dwayne
