A Song

Adorable Child Singing into MicrophoneI know that there are people who can’t carry a tune, but they can still sing. I believe that we are “hard-wired” to love music and song. I’m pretty sure that God loves songs written for Him and about Him. I believe that God is a music lover. Music and song expresses emotions from deep within my soul that may never surface any other way. There is such power in a song. I can remember where I was and what I was doing when I hear certain songs. I don’t just hear music – I experience it.

Moses was obviously a music lover as he burst into song after the miraculous escape from the Egyptian army. Check this out…

1 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord:

‘I will sing to the Lord,

    for he is highly exalted.

Both horse and driver

    he has hurled into the sea.

2 ‘The Lord is my strength and my defence[a];

    he has become my salvation.

He is my God, and I will praise him,

    my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

3 The Lord is a warrior;

    the Lord is his name.

11 Who among the gods

    is like you, Lord?

Who is like you –

    majestic in holiness,

awesome in glory,

    working wonders?

12 ‘You stretch out your right hand,

    and the earth swallows your enemies.

13 In your unfailing love you will lead

    the people you have redeemed.

In your strength you will guide them

    to your holy dwelling.

18 ‘The Lord reigns

    for ever and ever.’ (Exodus 15:1-3;11-13;18 NIV)

Sometimes there are no words and music steps up to help.

Sometimes there is no music and words express the depths of my soul.

When words and music come together in harmony there is a powerful soul moving experience that is hard to describe.

I love singing songs the honor God. I love it when God gives me a song randomly throughout the day. I love it when others are obedient to the Lord to write songs and then share them with the world. Music is deep therapy for my soul. I am not talking about a certain genre of music – just music. I have to admit that some forms of music do not really move me, but I’ve seen in move others. Music is a language that belongs to all mankind. I’m deeply grateful for music and song that attracts my attention to Creator God like this Song of Moses.

Pressing On!
