A Day

concept of uncertainty of the futureToday is different than every other day, but it’s also similar to other days in my past. For example, I getting up from the same bed, making coffee in the same pot and sitting in the same chair, etc…. Today will be different than other days. I have an appointment to meet with a couple who are thinking of selling their house and I’m meeting with another couple who are closing on a new house that gives them room for family expansion. Today is special to each of them. Each day is really very unique when I look at it carefully. For someone on an assembly line, each day is unique but similar. It is healthy to stop for a second and look at the opportunities ahead for today. I must admit that I like holidays when a significant number of people in the work world have the day off. It changes the feel of that particular day for sure. I recently celebrated the day I married my wife. I celebrate that day every year!

Zechariah was telling the people of Israel about a special day that was coming. It was going to be good for God’s people but pretty bad on those who oppressed and took advantage of them before. This will be a day like no other. Check this out….

6 On that day there will be neither sunlight nor cold, frosty darkness. 7 It will be a unique day – a day known only to the Lord – with no distinction between day and night. When evening comes, there will be light.

8 On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half of it east to the Dead Sea and half of it west to the Mediterranean Sea, in summer and in winter.

9 The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name. (Zechariah 14:6-9 NIV)

If I can learn that the Lord is in charge of each and every one of my days, I would be less stressed and so much wiser. He really wants me to trust Him with the details of my day. He is there to lead me through adverse and tough spots as well as there to lead me through success and celebratory times. This particular day of the Lord is like days in our history when the world seemed to stop turning. I remember where I was when certain world events took place. The day the first space shuttle crashed during takeoff was a tough day. The day the terrorist hijacked four commercial planes to use them as weapons is a day I won’t forget for the rest of my life. The Lord wants every day and for me to trust Him with today. He is The Creator of today. He can shape my day. He wants me to surrender my heart and all of my control over today so that He can really do something with it.

Pressing On!

Dwayne
